People often feel inner conflict about the work involved in spiritual life. We think, "If I'm free, why should I work at becoming free? And if I'm working at it, how can I possibly be free?"
Friends, freedom and discipline are not incompatible. In truth, we are already free, but we must learn to express our freedom, just as every eagle had to learn to fly.
Let us not fail to do what is necessary to liberate ourselves. And let us not engage in self-work without faith in our freedom, only to reinforce a sense of bondage thereby.
