Looking around us, it's obvious that worldwide standards of morality are far too low for anyone's good. But we can't expect our traditional sources for morality -- religion and spirituality -- to correct the shortfall. They themselves, as they are commonly practiced, have actually helped perpetuate the problem. To improve our world, we must bring religion and spirituality up to our own inner standards, not the other way around.
